K's suggestion to meet at Tech Boy's place is actually better than what he'd originally had in mind. This way he can decorate for the occasion as extravagantly as K deserves—as they both deserve—on this very special day. Their anniversary. It's the day K followed the red string's pull and knocked on his door, flower crown in hand. Flowers K had grown himself. On himself. Tech Boy hadn't been to clear on the mechanics of K inheriting Fern's abilities, chalking it up to the strangeness of the dreamworld. Besides, there had been far pressing matters to discuss.
But. Actual life born from the biorobotic material that composes K's physical form is a pretty significant event. One that says a lot about the technology used to create replicants in K's alternate 2049 homeworld. It speaks volumes about potential—a lot more than anyone probably realizes—and the god ponders this in more detail as he sets up the scene that will greet K when he arrives.
"Why am I so fucking nervous?" he says aloud to no one.
Tech Boy creates a cozy honeymoon suite that features many of the same aesthetics as the interior of his limo. Everything is minimalistic, smooth, pristine, and expensive. Track lighting softly illuminates the space around its edges. A large, impossibly flat screen takes up a significant portion of one wall. There is a round table with two chairs bearing two flutes of champagne that glowed slightly blue. The bed is large with a thick goose down comforter in an eye-catching maroon color. In a room that is all shades of white, grey, and black, it's meant to be an unsubtle hint. Rose petals appear on the comforter, scattered dramatically without yet spilling onto the floor.
Looking around, Tech Boy considers his creation. Other furniture and features could be instantly created as needed, but all the important elements are in place. He thinks. Well... he'll know soon enough, won't he?
He's not able to sit still, so instead he paces while he waits. Tech Boy is dressed up in a little something he'd designed specifically for a special occasion. And what a better time than now? He gently holds a single long stemmed red rose behind his back with both hands, hoping to hide it from K's view when he first enters. His hair is loosed so that the curls fall over his shoulders.
Oh, but there's so much more to be seen beyond this room. All part of the plan. However, Tech Boy is in no hurry to explore it. It will wait for as long as they decide to celebrate inside this room. The door is practically hidden (nearly seamless white on a white wall), but above it bears the impression of words. Latin again, because that is what is on the front of god's memory recall at the moment. Nunc scio quid sit amor—Now that I know what love is.
When he can feel the connection of K's access point into the Backstage area, Tech Boy stops pacing and turns to face where K will appear, wearing a very pleased expression on his face.
Tech Boy won't be left waiting for too long, though there is a several minute delay in which K takes the opportunity to properly shave for the occasion. It's a minor grooming detail that would usually be overlooked, but extending that extra bit of effort toward his appearance feels more important today; he wants to look good for Tech Boy.
The last several months of exploration and experimentation have served to make K more aware of the kind of control he's able to exert while Backstage. Specifically the manipulation of his clothing. When he pulls on the headset and allows it to bring him in, he's still wearing what he'd slept in, but as he's walking into the area Tech Boy's prepared for them his clothes flicker and change into a modern tuxedo he feels is more befitting the occasion. One that, upon glancing down at himself and straightening the bowtie, he thinks he'll enjoy having Tech Boy take off of him as well. A desire that's likely to be accommodated judging by the lavish, rose petal-covered bed already present. He spends a few moments noting the other details of the room with interest before giving the waiting god his full attention, stepping closer to him.
To say he's gone the extra mile would be an understatement. K's smiling as he takes in Tech Boy's layered outfit and appearance with an appreciative eye, very pleased by the choice to wear his hair down. Hopefully it's intended as an invitation to touch it as much as he likes, because he's going to have a hard time not doing exactly that. Being allowed to is a rare treat.
"You've outdone yourself." He offers his hands, wanting to take Tech Boy's in his. Is there something behind his back? "And you look incredibly handsome," he adds, his smile widening into a look of pure adoration. "You always do." Just especially so today, in K's opinion.
K's inspection of the room and obvious appreciation of it tickles Tech Boy, and he's finding it a bit hard to keep his expression from becoming too self-satisfied at the compliment. Outdone himself? Oh, he's just getting started. Although he manages to contain his excitement for now, it makes him want to bounce from foot to foot. Tech Boy has a couple of very special surprises for later, and if K thinks this is impressive, he can't wait to see his reaction to what else is in store. When the god decides to outdo himself and really go to excess, it's his beloved who receives the blessings of the experience.
He highly doubts that he will ever get tired of showing off for K, of spoiling him simply because he can. A thought which is reinforced by that incredible, adoring smile. It reminds the god of just how lucky he is to have gotten this far, to have found someone to share a life with. To make a life with. He mentally takes a deep breath.
"Of course I look good," Tech Boy teases. "I wouldn't have shown up if I didn't." He shakes his head with a little laugh so the curls of his hair bounce in a purposely alluring fashion. He gives K a coy smile, obviously susceptible to the flattery. "You always do. I'm just trying to keep up."
Reaching out with one hand to take one of K's, Tech Boy offers him the rose with his other. There is a thin red ribbon tied into an elaborate bow around the stem. It shimmers slightly in the soft light of the room. He wants to touch the soft petals of the flower to the rare sight that is K's smooth face, convinced that their softness would be indistinguishable. Of course this softness immediately makes Tech Boy think of the sensation of K's stubble against some of the most sensitive parts of his skin, and heat rises in him as if blushing invisibly.
K accepts Tech Boy's hand and the offered rose with a look of delighted surprise. The red ribbon is the perfect touch, and the significance of that detail isn't lost on him. As if he could ever forget, especially today. Even if the impulses brought on by their own red thread had had them rushing into certain things he would've normally preferred taking his time with, it was a vital catalyst for their relationship, and he doesn't regret it.
"I don't have your imagination, but I try. Happy anniversary," he offers in turn, leaning in and brushing a gentle kiss to Tech Boy's lips. He's still smiling when he leans back, radiating a sort of quiet joy as he continues taking Tech Boy in.
"And to think a year ago you almost turned me away because you were busy. Didn't want to be interrupted." Just a little affectionate teasing for the occasion. He'd had the impression it took effort on Tech Boy's part to be patient with him back then. But he chose to make that effort, and that's what matters. They chose each other.
"What a romantic you've become," he says as he squeezes Tech Boy's hand, more serious than teasing now. "Thank you for this." For the rose, and for creating such a special place for them to celebrate in. For treating their anniversary as something important, worthy of being celebrated. It's difficult finding the words for these emotions, but K does his best to convey what he's feeling through their connection, wanting Tech Boy to understand what all of this means to him. And, more than anything else, what Tech Boy himself means to him.
"A year ago, I didn't know how precious your interruptions would be to me. One of my favorite parts of the day." Tech Boy tilts his head slightly with the slight curl of a smirk on his lips. Then he huffs softly. "More like the work keeps trying to interrupt our time together. Not going to let it."
Patience is one of many lessons he learned from K. Actually caring about someone enough to slow down in order to understand, appreciate, and accommodate another person's needs, wants, and experiences. They're still learning from each other--the god and the replicant with so much in common yet still so much undiscovered--and they'll have all the time in the world. A year is nothing, barely even the beginning. And with the technology god's newly stable upgrade, Tech Boy is as good as reborn. Restarting the clock, turning over the hourglass, and all that flowery idiom crap. Yes, they have a lot to look forward to, and quite a long time to do it in.
He squeezes K's hand in return, absorbing K's emotions and sentiments and returning them in kind. It strikes Tech Boy as strange to think how much more he smiles these days, but he's doing it again. But only for one person. His person. The only person who matters in this dream world and the next.
"What a romantic you've turned me into. Would never have known I had it in me, but you bring out the best. And lucky you, it's all yours." He goes up on his toes briefly to look K directly in the eye. With a quick grin, he winks with a (possibly redundant) "As am I." before landing back on his heels.
This year milestone deserves to be celebrated with as much pomp as the god can give it. And it matters most of all because he knows it's important to K. They promised to make their own traditions. To make their own memories. This anniversary day is something just for the two of them. And, potentially, it will become something more than the day K first knocked on the god's door.
The anticipation raises another rush of heat to Tech Boy's face. He bites his lip briefly then leans back in to steal another kiss, soft yet full of emotion. Feeling the rise of another kind of heat, Tech Boy breaks the kiss reluctantly, then rests his free hand on K's chest.
"What would be the most romantic thing to do next?" He lifts an eyebrow, indicating that it's a sincere question. "The possibilities are practically bursting."
