[ There's a gift left by his door with a note attached to it, her name scribbled on it so he at least knows who it's from. Inside is a batch of brownies that are... most likely pot brownies. A thank you for sharing his drugs when she needed them, clearly. ]
[ He's not a Christmas kind of deity, but he's certainly a special brownie fan. Your gift has been accepted and appreciated. He won't be sending thank you cards, but he'll be sure to keep you in mind for the next time he's feeling generous. You're definitely in his Top 5. ]
[ The camera is covered because K's uncertain how to explain his predicament. It's just bizarre. He's never experienced being a child before; he was manufactured as an adult, like all replicants. Aging isn't a factor for him. Then there's the added worry that it's going to be very awkward for Tech Boy, too. ]
[ Anyone else purposely covering their camera would around his suspicion, and he'd look on purpose anyway. But K's earned this much of his trust, so he leaves it alone. For now. ]
Technical difficulties are my specialty. What's going on?
Something, huh? Is this going to become a habit? You making me things?
[ With the fascinating incentive of getting to hear Tech Boy's musical capabilities (directly this time), K picks up the pace and makes it back to their apartment building within a few minutes, curious about what exactly a musical algorithm involves. More than that, curious about what Tech Boy had meant by, "still am it, technically." The implications are a bit worrying — that humans might possibly be able to alter him in such fundamental ways, wielding so much power over him...
K's all too familiar with where that road leads.
Unsure whether Tech Boy will be physically waiting outside his apartment for him or simply do his network-teleportation trick, he checks his Fluid while making his way up to their floor. ]
[ Tech Boy had considered the merits of waiting for K inside his apartment, naked at his piano but for a bed sheet tied around his waist, but instead he's crouched comfortably near K's door with his tablet in his lap. One hand seems to vanish into the device as he's making a few adjustments on something. The hallway on their floor hasn't been busy recently with residents' comings and goings, so he's not worried about getting interrupted.
To the Fluid he says ] I'll be waiting. [ for once letting the background of the video show his location.
He's looking forward to this. Music has always been something he's terribly fond of even if its not strictly his bailiwick. Of course, having been programmed to imitate Bach gives this current version of himself both a greater appreciation of music and a cutting edge with which to score his own. He's happy to show off his skills to the one person around here whose opinion he really values.
Hangups around certain phrasing aside, the young god really does like to show off. He wonders if K will like the new thing he's programming. It'll be a bit of a surprise for everyone when he's done.
So he crouches, working and waiting patiently, idly tracking K's approach. ]
[ While Tech Boy's busy with his latest jaunt into the network, K has occupied himself in the kitchen preparing what he hopes will be a successful surprise. It's the culmination of hours of research and several failed attempts, but he's sure he has finally unlocked the secrets to achieving the perfect pizza crust — and without undercooking or burning the rest of the ingredients. Who knew junk food could be so difficult to make at home? Of course, with full control over the ingredients, this will prove to be a healthier alternative to commercial offerings... while hopefully still being tasty. A labour of love.
The pizza is in the oven and K's in the process of cleaning up when Tech Boy reappears. Pausing what he's doing, K turns to greet him with a smile and gestures to the counter where there's a katydid brooch, a circuitry keychain, and a patch, along with Martin's letter explaining their purpose. ]
One of those is for you. From Sims's boyfriend, Martin. I believe you met him on the network.
[ Tech Boy finally emerges from their bedroom, stretching his arms over his head. His deep dives into the Deerington network have taken a lot of his time recently, and K has been so patient with him while he works. He reaches out using their internal connection to gently, wordlessly touch even before he sees K in the kitchen.
If the Technical Boy was the type of god to have saints, K would be chief among them. He's terribly fond.
He returns the smile readily, giving K his full attention before his constantly active mind is distracted by the objects on the counter. Picking up the letter (how old fashioned, a hand written note), he scans it quickly with a curious furrow of his brow. ]
I did meet Martin briefly. This is an interesting peace offering.
[ He loops his fingers through the ring of the offered key chain then strokes the back of the little brooch with a fingertip. ]
A kadydid. That's cute.
[ Tech Boy reaches out to take hold of K's waistband, just hanging on for now. ]
[ One November morning, Tech Boy's mailbox will be graced with a delivery from someone who clearly does not know how to send mail. Inside is what appears to be a piece of paper, tightly folded into a two-inch square, on one side of which has been written "The Technical Boy" along with his address, while the other side bears... a sticker. It's not even a postage stamp, just one of those barcode stickers usually attached to products in a modern supermarket—strange, given Deerington doesn't have one of those. Despite this error, the Delivery Dogs seem to have taken pity on the sender and delivered the parcel anyway.
If Tech Boy unfolds the bundle, he'll find a Sleeper Scout badge wrapped inside and writing on the paper. ]
Dear Technical Boy: I received this badge from the administrator Sodder. When worn, it will automatically notify me if the wearer requires assistance or protection. Wear it, and I will come to your aid if needed.
Not "you guys." Me. Built it and secured it with my own two hands. The app and the database is my gift to the Sleepers. "Knowledge is power" and all that shit. The more crowd sourced entries, the better the chance of not dying violently.
Nah. The cartoon plants and the rest of it are just for fun. Once you find the secret entrance to the database, congrats, you're in.
But there is some context; K hasn't forgotten what Tech Boy said his favourite meals are and has been figuring out how to make the other one. Researching McDonald's food ("food") is what led to him finding that meme on the network, and naturally he has to share.
[ "food" is an accurate descriptor. even Tech Boy knows this. However, he's also gotten several ideas from this attachment... other than the obvious. ]
[ Tech Boy isn't a "handwritten note" type of guy, but Fern'll receive a text response with an attachment to click on. It's small, and contains some alt skins for the games already installed on the Fluid. ]
This is exactly the way a holiday like this works, and I'm touched that you thought to send me something. Chocolate is great, and one of my favorite things about this holiday.
[ It's a good thing that K is keeping track of the days, because Tech Boy certainly hasn't been. They indeed need to celebrate the sappy holiday. Not that they really need any excuse to be sappy, but a date on the calendar for extra affection is always appreciated.
The binary makes him smile. Being literally the language that the Technical Boy is built from, the added sentiment really warms his heart.
He wonders if sharing a box of chocolates while curled up together counts as romantic. There's always the Energy wine than they can share now that the circumstances are no longer dire. Oh! And poetry. When was the last time they'd recited poetry to each other? Not recently enough. Time to fix that. ]
[ Stealthily sent after midnight at any point when Tech Boy is asleep (or otherwise suitably distracted enough), so it'll be the first message he receives that day. ]
delivered on christmas (cw for drug mention)
chloe, you da best
during the March event, sent via Fluid
Are you busy?
text;
[ No no no. It wouldn't do to snap at K. He sighs to himself and starts again. ]
I'm inside, working on something secret. A special project that keeps getting interup--
[ One more time. ]
I'm not too busy for you, K. But I can't leave here. In the apartments, room 418.

Hey,

And if this isn't how the holiday works, sorry. I'm trying my best here.
